Project outline
In 2010, the Junior School at St Andrews Lutheran College is implementing
an accountability process to allow all teachers in the Junior School to have the opportunity to achieve an ICT Competency Certificate (competent level). This certificate focuses on teacher pedagogy not just the attainment of ICT skills. The Junior School teachers will reflect on their ICT learning journey, evaluate their skills and pedagogical development in relation to the ICT Teacher Competency document. This document links clearly to Education Queensland’s Productive Pedagogies and to Lutheran Education Queensland’s ICT Teacher Continua. As such, this demonstrates the Junior School’s strong pedagogical approach in the integration of digital pedagogies clearly highlighting the intentional focus on 21st century learning supporting digital pedagogies and use of Web 2.0 tools to enhance student learning.

Teachers will examine their current use of ICTs and Web 2.0 tools with the desire to improve student learning outcomes and enjoyment by improving not only their ICT skills and knowledge but to authentically integrate digital pedagogies into the curriculum (specifically the Program of Inquiry).

An evaluation of the current ICT Scope and Sequence documentation, Units of Inquiry, and current teacher ICT skills will occur in order to identify areas of need. Teachers will work collaboratively (in Year Level Teaching Teams) with the Project/ICT Facilitator to develop personal and professional learning opportunities and goals for the year.

Teaching teams will present their findings and learning experiences with other teachers in the Junior School, allowing others to learn from their experiences at Staff Meetings and other suitable venues. An evaluation of the project and goals will conclude with the development of an ICT Strategic Plan for St Andrew Lutheran College Junior School designed to best meet the needs of learners of the 21st century using findings from such documents as the Horizon Report (2010).
